This is awesome. One of those photos that leaves you wondering and wanting an explanation. Problem is, I found it on one of those sites where people post random stuff AND DON’T TELL YOU WHERE IT CAME FROM! Gah! Provenance, people. It’s important. Look it up.
UPDATE: OK, I Googled the file name and found that this is from the Harlem Renaissance Photo Exhibit at Dorsky Museum: The Photographs of James Van Der Zee. “Untitled,” 1929. I still have questions, but it’s a start.
